Bichemistry - (Dec/18/2005 )

How can I claculate the volume required for an assay out of my stock solutions. Is there any website that might show me the way out?

Cheers,
Aryan

if you go to the media and solutions page, there are a couple good links to some formula-calculating pages

I find this page helpful for such things...

The quick answer is: (Concentration of final solution divided by concentration of stock)multiplied by the final volume of final solution equals the volume of stock you should use. (It's just a version of an equation you may remember from high school: M1V1 = M2V2).

warning: shameless self-promotion ahead.

There's a book (OK, I wrote it) with all sorts of calculations like this (that we all use and we all forget); it includes "fill in the blank" pages that you can just xerox and paste into your notebook to make sure you get the calculations right, even if you dont want to read about where the calculations come from. Its called Lab Math (CSHLPress).
