bioinformatics in cell signalling - use of bioinformatics (Dec/11/2005 )

a very hot good afternoon to everyone in the month of dec and very very happy christmas

i am a phd student newly registered to phd, i am planning my work in cell signalling, in which i will see the antitumor effect of one drug on one cell tumor cell line and will depict the pathway of apoptosis.

i dont have much idea about the bioinformatics but yet i want to do some work in relating with the bioinformatics.

in my work i have to do the two dimensional electrophoresis, and and will see the differential protein expression among the control and treated cell.

is there anybody who can tell me that which other parameter i can do relating with bioinformatics.

and i am also intersted in knowing more and more about the bioinformatics tool. is there any good website which can guide me in this direction.

thanx and regards. this act of copereation will be highly appreciated.

Sounds to me like that is a lab based PhD! dry.gif

Most biologists seem to think that databases encompass bioinformatics, and to some extent that is true! Probably looking at projects like the Stanford Micorarray Databaseor Swiss 2D page may give you some ideas - you may be able to contribute to the later project or indeed for you own benefit make your own DB for your gels... much nice than a scrappy lab book!

There are some good websites out there... however most seem to plagarise the wikipedia. If you are interested in learning more then I think that is the best place to start.
