I am so Angry..... - How do u deal when u r upset and angry?? (Oct/31/2005 )

I came in today morning and people in my lab have thrashed my place..... I need stuff to be clean at least in my place...they have left everything...used towels, used pipetes, pipete covers everything in my place..

I feel like a doormat with ordering common stuff...no one bothers to do so....Today people are snapping at me for not ordering stuff (when I already ordered it last thursday). The beauty queens in my lab did not bother to check that...

I refused to strip the serum as I hardly use it....when I said that to my labmates that I wanted to do it separately...they were angry. I just dont like the way they do it. THey work in the centrifuge with bacteria and dont bother to sterilize it before using it for the serum. 30 nmins incubation becomes 45 or 50 mins as they are busy eating...I wanted out and now they are mad at me.

I feel like going on a rampage....grrr

have you gone to the PI? it sounds like your situation is worse than most, and your PI should recognize that you will work harder and better if you dont' have to deal with this silly stupid stuff all the time..and it also sounds like you are being taken advantage of and that is not fair

when I am angry, I buy a stack of old plates, take them to a schoolyard or something, and toss them against a brick wall...hard. clean-up's a pain but it's worth it

I used to punch trees till I damaged a knuckle. now it's breaking plates

Do you have a lab manager?
Tell him/her about the situation.

Also, there are regulations (OGTR etc... not sure of the ones overseas), which pretty much state that the place has to be clean. Maybe in your next lab meeting, bring it up.... politely.

Notes on equipment, like "if you're the last to use it, replace it" or "keep this area tidy" or "this is not a pigsty" and my personal favourite: "i have rabies"... might get the message across.

But yeah, tell your PI and lab manager.

pass the messege in the lab that when u get annoyed you work double time and get results quicker! If beauty queens are RAEL girls they definitely would not trouble you

What are RAEL girls?

Is it your job to order stuff? If not ask your manager to sort it out. If you get the stuff all the time and don’t say it annoying you they will let you do it all the time. Speak up and it may change if only that you all take it in turns to order stuff.

Atleast wherever I have seen, REAL girls (with typical girlish mindset) will be the rootcause of many problems, misunderstandings, groupism, back stabbing, pinching .... ( excuse gals on this forum, am not generalising)

One thing i will take away with my pHd is ...NEVER work in a lab filled with women...just too much estrogen floating around....also work in a lab with a lab manager

Pria i think u r in a still better lab. I joined a lab which was just few months old... so first 6 months of oall grad students went in setting up the lab... (including speaking to plumbers, carpenters, funds, equipments etc!!) still this is part of life..will help when u setup ur own lab!
