In situ hybridization - zebrafish (Aug/17/2009 )
Hi,
I'm planning to do some in situs on zebrafish embryos and I'm trying to decide on the kind of probes to use for it. I was planning on using RNA probes but I'm not sure how specific these are. I want to be able to identify different family members of this gene group and I'm not sure if RNA probes will be able to do the trick in distinguishing between them.
If anyone can help answer this and/or recommend a different probe that will be able to do this then I'd be really grateful.

RNA probes are quite specific.
If I understand correctly - You want to identify the expression patterns of different family members of a gene group - you need to make sure that you select the most nonconserved (within the family) areas of mRNAs as your probes.
