ADMSC or fibroblast? - (Jul/16/2009 )

I just got a job working at a company that works with adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells and am new to tissue culture. I am confused by some of the terminology used in the lab and was hoping someone can clarify this for me. I know we obtain stem cells from adipose tissue, but I noticed that my supervisor uses the terms "adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells" and "fibroblasts" interchangeably and insists that they are the same thing. I know that they are similar in morphology, but according to some friends of mine (that also work in tissue culture labs), they are different types of cells. So, would it be correct to say that the stem cells we isolate from adipose tissue are fibroblasts?

for me they are not fibroblasts but have fibroblast-like morphology
