Hemolysis effect in ELISA - (Jul/01/2009 )

In general ELISA, does hemolysis serum effects the ELISA result ?

If yes, how ?

or

Which or when I should concern about hemolysis serum ?

Thank you.

In a surveillance/diagnostics lab I worked in recently, haemolysed sera had a tendency to result in false +ves.
However, unfortunately I'm not sure how as I am an ELISA novice :)

Thank you for your information, leelee.

Anymore suggestion ?

the red color of the hemolysed serum may increase the color intensity in chromogenic ELISA whereas in fluorogenic ELISA hemolysed blood may not affect the result.

Beside the color that almost never will be a problem, hemolysis tells that the erythrocyten are broken up and that thus the cell content is added to the serum. If the targetted protein in serum is not equal to the protein content in the erythrocytes the result will deviate.
