Ultracentrifuge Tubes - autoclaveable? (Jun/24/2009 )

i am working with very expensive ultracentrifugationtubes (Beckman Coulter, Polycarbonate, Thick Wall tubes, 4ml, Cat.No. 355645).

its hard to find anything about handling of those tubes. doas anyone of you uses this tubes and are they autoclaveable/reusable?!

thanks for suggestions

We also use BC thick wall 50ml tubes. In fact the tubes I have are more than a year old and I always autoclave them before use. In my opinion re-using these tubes should not be a problem.

Cheers

There is a data sheet that comes with the tubes which gives details:
Chemical resistance
Autoclavability

These tubes CAN be autoclaved and re-used a couple of times. THESE TUBES ARE SOLD AS DISPOSABLE and should be used as such.
Autoclaving the tubes many times WILL reduce the viability of the plastic. If this happens ACCIDENTS will happen and cause major problems with the Ultracentrifuge...THIS WILL BE COSTLY.

In my opinion BUY new tubes and be safe
