amplicon storage - amplicon storage (Jun/03/2009 )

Dear all
may i know about the storage of amplicons. Can i store the amplicons at 2-8C?and how to decontaminate these amplicons?
thanks,

it is ok to store ur pcr poducts at 4C. to get pure product, run the reaction on agarose gel, slice off the required band and purify using qiagen kit.

If you don't have any non-specific bands you can also skip the gel extraction and run the product through the qiagen pcr clean up kit which removes dimers, enzymes, reagents, ect... Everything really depends on what downstream plans you have for your pcr product.

Skipping the amplicon gel running is a good idea because UV light is always scary for both the DNA for us. For confirmation, i'd recommend running a few uL in gel after PCR clean up and then proceed to cloning or other purpose.
Thanks 303microbialist, this is indeed a good short cut to save time and giving less stress to DNA under study.
