real-time PCR and HIV - what is the most commonly used assay to measure viral load in plasma (May/31/2009 )

I'm just wondering what is the assay/protocol generally used in the medical diagnostic labaratories for measureing HIV viral load in plasma. here I mean an assay which is based on Real-time PCR.

The NIH AIDS Reagent Program offers researchers real-time PCR standards free of charge. All you have to do is provide shipping costs. Check it out at: http://www.aidsreagent.org

My lab uses primers to detect a specific region in the HIV genome to find out the number of copies of the virus within plasma.
