Differences in Thermal Cyclers? - (May/28/2009 )

Hello:

I use in the lab MJ and Eppendorf thermal cyclers (PTC 100 and Mastercycler gradient). I have noticed, however, that the Eppendorf TC works better vs the MJs. By this I mean that the Eppendorf will give amplification of a specific SCAR fragment while the MJs won't. I always use an internal control so I know that my amplifications are working, at least to some degree.

Has anyone observed the same? Could you recommend changes? Also, could you recommend thermal cyclers that will do multiple plates instead of only one? I would like to increase our throughput.

Thanks,

JA

We use Biorad and Thermo Scientific thermocyclers. The Biorad ones work great, while the thermo does not-for whatever reason. I do believe biorad has a model out that can do multiple plates.
