Hello all...

Could somebody tell me, the differences between DMEM medium and DMEM F12 !? As silly as it will sound, I cant find it anywhere....

Thank you in advance !!!

DMEM:F12 is DMEM mixed 1:1 with F12 medium.

F 12 is also called Hams F12, any media supplier will stock this and also have the exact recipe for it

My friend gave me some cells that were in DMEM/F12, yesterday I just put them in DMEM.... they are fine today :D

i'm now grow the osteoblast hfob 1.19 and osteosarcoma U2-OS. before this i gave them DMEM/F12 (together with FBS and penstrep). DMEM/F12 already finished but i m still need to grow them. Can i use DMEM without F12 to grow them? I have DMEM only for this time. Can anyone response me?

This is a tricky one - the cells will probably grow fine in DMEM, but (and it is a big BUT) how will this affect your experiments and how will these results compare with results you already have? There are likely to be quite a number of gene expression changes with the medium change, so you would need to check very carefully on the growth rates and any genes that you are interested in looking at.

oh yes! thank you for the reminder. very useful information. i love my cells, and its gene content. so i need to stop for a while and cryopreserve them first in order to wait for the new media dmem/f12. is that ok?
