amino acid substtutation - (Apr/08/2009 )

Can some one explain me by how the alanine and glycine can affect the structure of transmembrane helices if boh were used for proline substitutation. Proline can induce the kink into the helix but what structural changes can occur by replacing the proline with alanine and glycine.

I don't know the answer properly, but it will have to do with size, charge and hydropathy of the substituted amino acids. The attached paper may be useful.
