Silver sataining kits troubleshouting - (Mar/24/2009 )

i stained today a gel using silverxpress kit but the stainer run out so i used silverquest stainer but after addition of silverxpress developer nooo bands appear!! is there a solution to solve this problem like destaining and restain again !! these samples are v important and cannot be repeated

we don't use any kit for silver staining, we do it manually using vorum's silver staining protocol. And I've never destained the silver stained gel, but I've heard people do it with farmer's reagent which contains potassium ferricyanide and sodium thiosulfate, you can try it. I use it for destaining the gel plugs for mass spectrometry, i think it should work with the gel. If you don't want to try straight away on your precious gel, then may be you can cut a part which doesn't have any protein and then give it a try. Here is the method to make it-
