filter tips or regular tips for tissue culture? - (Mar/16/2009 )

What is the general consensus? Do you use filter pipette tips or just autoclave regular pipette tips for tissue culture.

I realize that filter tips will obviously be better for reducing the chance of contamination from pipettes etc but, they are so $!

i think not neccessary to use filter tips( as you said, it is expensive). Jz use normal tips(either a pre-steril or autoclave). We have been use that for years(primary or cell line). What matter much is the techniques.

most often I use regular tips.
I only use filter tips when I culture intracellular bacteria, or when I know I have quite some risk to make cross contamination (with potential mycoplasma infected cells in 96 well plates for example)

Normally use dry-heated sterile tips instead of filter tips!

I totally agree with little mouse. I'll use regular sterile tips and only change to filter tips if I suspect something strange or dealing with something that could potentially contaminate my cultures.
