Online Bergey's manual? - (Mar/11/2005 )
I am wondering if there is some type of database similar to Bergey's that will give information for microbial species identification.
One other question, does anyone know how yogurt companies test their finished product for live lactobacilus acidofilus organisms?

There is an online database similar to Bergey's. It is a probibilistic identification matrix, where you can enter in what you know about the bacteria and search the database for species. It will give you results for the most likely Taxa, and an ID Score. The website also has an interactive identification key, methods, etc.

I am aware of that, but maybe there are websites specificly on yeasts identification.
The best text was Lodders "The Yeasts". Think that was last published in 1970 (she died in '80's). A few others texts since then but not aware of a website.

Yes, check out GIDEON at www.gideononline.com.
It handles online identification of bacteria, mycobacteria and yeasts.
Yes their are databases present for the identifiaction of microbial species like bacteria, fungi etc. Some of them are:
Enterobacteriacae
Gram Negative Aerobic Fermentative Rods
Gram Negative Aerobic Non-fermentors
Gram Positive Aerobic Cocci
Bacillus
Lactobacillus
The companies use two types of capsules for checking the live bacteria in yogurt.
You can learn more about microbiology and the queries related to it by taking the microbiology test of wiziq through microbiology practice tests it wil surely help you.
