epitope N1 peptide SARS nucleocapside - (Aug/18/2022 )

Hello,

epitope N1 peptide (Sequence: PTDSTDNNQNGGRNGARPKQRRPQ) of the nucleocapsid protein N has a good immunogenic effect and we will use it to test the reactivity of our diagnostic kits (rapid nasal swabs).
Could it produce the same toxic effects as the whole protein N in case of contact or accidental inhalation?

Unlikely

Thank you for your answer!

So if we understand correctly, even if the N1 peptide has the ability as an antigen to induce an immune response, it would be safe from the point of view of toxicity that only the whole protein has.

Correct. To be an effective antigen to produce protective antibodies (ie vaccine), the peptide only has to be part of the protein that is exposed in its native state and stable.

however, the protein alone is probably not “toxic” on its own

Thank you so much for your help!
