Chromosomes: Centromeres - (Jan/13/2019 )

Hi,

Is a centromere an actual protein, or just a point in the center of the chromosome?

Thanks.

chromosomes (including centromeres) are wholly constituted of dna, no protein.

I see it differently. Based on what I have learned so far, chromosomes are compact chromatin (DNA) with also other proteins (histone proteins) to help them keep a compact form. Anyways, I found the answer in a textbook: Centromeres are regions at the center of the chromosome. In that way, though, you are right.

Thanks for replying.
