Mastermix expiry dates? - (Apr/30/2018 )

I ordered a TaqMan environmental master mix last month (April 2018) intending to use it over the next 6-8 months for a series of experiments requiring me to quantify pathogen abundance in soil. The Mastermix product that has arrived expires July 2018. I am aware they generally have a shelf life of 1 year but was hoping to have one that would last for longer that 3 month.

Wondering what peoples experiences are with 'expired' mastermixes? How long after expiry is true expiry and how has out of date products potentially impacted your results?

3 months is a bit short. Send an email to the technical support or your local sales representative and say that you got a product with a very short shelf-life. If you are nice, they might replace it.

Bob1 gave really good advice. No harm in asking for an additional free batch, though you might still be able to use the older one. A lot of mastermixes last way past their expiration date if they are stored properly and always gently agitated and spun down before you take out an aliquot. I have had success with BioRad iproof polymerase (not for qPCR, granted) 8 years past its expiration date. (No I don't work for BioRad).
