Is it legal to make a TV show with mutant mice - (Mar/12/2018 )

Hello everyone,

I have an urgent question! I have an idea but I don't know if it's legal. Or maybe the right question is how much of it can be done and how much is not legal.

The idea is called “Mutant Mouse Brother” and is, as you can guess, a project for a reality show. The main goal is to find funding for science in a very unusual way. I thought that people would like to watch the mutant mice that are in the laboratories. Than I realised that this would be very easy to achieve with just one small camera and a microphone in one of the transparent mouse containers. My proposal is to offer people to by mutant mouse and keep in the laboratory. I just don't know if it's legal or no!

Short answer: NO!

long answer depends on where you are. I think you are in the UK based on your profile. The UK has very stringent animal use rules, especially for laboratory animals, and I doubt that live feeds would be allowed unless for some scientific purpose.

Also: mice are boring in general, they sleep for much of the day and are active for about 20 min at a time. Just because they are mutant doesn't mean that this is obvious to the eye;  most mutations are internal and results in things like cancers (can you tell if a person who is walking down the street has cancer?), diabetes, etc... They are just mice!
