Lipid extraction/removal of organic layer - (Apr/18/2017 )

How do people generally remove the lower organic layer when doing lipid extractions? In my case, I am removing chloroform at the end of a Bligh-Dyer extraction. I normally use a glass pipet placed though the aqueous layer to remove the organic layer. The samples are intended for mass spec.

i usually remove the aqueous (upper) layer. that way i don't have to push a pipette through the layer and carry down aqueous and any precipitate from the interface.

if it's in disposable centrifuge tubes then you could puncture the bottom and drip out the organic layer.

Thanks, makes sense.
