Transfection with Lipofectamine and PEI, differences - (May/04/2016 )

Hi! I want to know what are the differences between PEI (polyethylenimine) and lipofectamine 2000. Is PEI more efficent?, are the mecanisms of transfection  the same? I want to transfect 10-14 DIV neurons with shRNA, what do you guys recomend?. Thank you!

I'm sorry I cannot tell you the difference these two. Usually I use Lipo2000 for plasmids, but Lipo2000 works well with shRNA, too.

Lf2000 is a newer generation of transfection reagent. Compared with pei it is more efficient, but tends to be more toxic. In your situation I would try a range of transfection reagents. Personally I have used fugene and found it very good compared to lf2000, but that was in ordinary cells, not neurons.
