Stability of a typical protein at 4oC? - (Mar/25/2016 )

How long can I store a typical protein at 4oC before expecting significant degradation? -20oC? -80oC?

there really isn't any such thing as a "typical" protein. you'll have to determine the stability of each protein (many will be in the literature).

some proteins will not like to be frozen. to store at -20C or lower you have to add an antifreeze component (like 50% glycerol).

others are fine with freezing.

-80C is usually used for indefinite storage (years).
