Uses of ion exchange chromatography? - (Mar/25/2016 )

What are some uses of ion exchange chromatography? I am looking it up as we speak, but I absorb information much better when it comes from people, so that's why I'm asking here.

One of my co-workers says it is good for cleaning up antibodies that haven't been purified well. Also, resolution can be very sensitive; can even separate conjugated vs non-conjugated proteins. Or that might have been hydrophobic interaction chromatography... can't remember which.

And mods, let me know if this is an appropriate location on the forums for this post. If not I can move it.

Thank you!

ion exchange chromatography is for separation of proteins by charge. if you have two proteins of similar size but dissimilar charge then you should be able to separate them by ion exchange.

protein charge can be regulated by pH.

download the ion exchange handbook (and other useful handbooks) from the ge lifesciences website (see the link below)
