Lab management software - (Aug/12/2015 )

Hi,

I did not know where to put this topic, I thought this was suitable place, so posting it here.

Do you people use lab management software in your lab? In recent edition of nature, there are many links given for such software, It was new for me. I found it really interesting but I don't know, how safe these software are?ph34r.png ...

Please share your experience if anybody has them installed in the lab. And which one would you prefer?

Thanks

I've used a variety of LIMS systems, mainly bespoke or vendor customized.

The functionality can vary but if you mean by "safe" how stable are these systems and not liable to eat all your data then they are very, very stable and most automatically transfer data to you server and be manipulatable via Excel.   So, given that you are backing up your server every night and you have a stable server then you'll have no issues.

The first thing you should think about is what you want your LIMS system to do and what infrastructure you have to support it.

From there you can get an idea of what you need and then decide if you have a budget for it.

If you are serious about getting a LIMS system then get input from absolutely everyone in your department that will use it (especially the technicians) - not just the managers.
