Agilent ChemStation (chiral HPLC) questions - (Jul/30/2015 )

Hello. I've got some hardware/software issues here.

My group just had a hard drive failure on the machine running our chiral HPLC (Agilent ChemStation). I'm going through the backup data and preparing the files for publication. I've run into two problems:

1) The computer won't let me print as PDF all of the files I want. Some are just fine, but others give me the error "Permission to use object denied." This doesn't make sense to me, as the problem files are in the same folder as ones that work. The permissions should be identical. How do I fix this?

2) The Agilent ChemStation doesn't work in online mode. There's a message about the VWD configuration being wrong, and that the computer and HPLC can't communicate. Nothing anyone in the lab has tried has gotten the configuration to work, and the configuration editor says we're using the same configuration as the backup. With online mode disabled, we can view old data, but not collect new stuff.

Help please? Number 1 is really a concern, as I'm writing a thesis using data I need to convert to a publishable format. Number 2... well, it's honestly not my problem anymore, but I might as well try.

Have you printed before, even in paper? What do you use to print in pdf?

you may be able to look at the properties of the problematic files and change the permissions.

if not, can you view the data? if so then you may be able to copy to the clipboard and paste into a new document.

as for the second problem, you may have to reinstall the software, confirm that the hplc is online and then, maybe, incorporate the backup files.
