Any DNA/RNA elements I can include into transgene to delay expression? - (Jun/30/2015 )

For a particular experiment, I'm interested in delaying expression of my transgene (typically administered in the form of IVT mRNA) about 24hrs.  I was just curious whether there was an element I could put into my construct to delay translation.

What about a switchable element such as a tet repressor? They do tend to be a bit leaky, but could be worth a shot.

Another option along those lines might be an opto-genetic switch.

This is very helpful, thank you.  I have thought about an inducible promoter, such as TetON, but I have not thought of opto-genics.

Ideally, I would like to work with elements that I could put into mRNA.  I was thinking of a riboswitch, but I would imagine it would be difficult to make an riboswitch for a novel molecule found in a particular organ.
