What could this bacterium be ? - (Jun/26/2015 )

Dear Member,

Today, I happen to come across a 'Pink coloured bacterial colonies' growing on some left over curd in the fridge. I was wondering if someone would be able to help me gain some knowledge about this organism.

About the colonies.

We had some left over curd in the fridge for a few days. I was about to throw it away, but noticed some pink coloured bacterial colonies growing on the sides of the container as well as on the curd surface. I immediately thought it might be some Serratia sp, but wanted to take a second opinion. The colonies appear smooth and circular, but one characteristic of the colonies was that they appear really pink. The colour of the colony was something I have not seen before on a lab cultured Serratia plate and hence a little bit curious of what this could be. The smallest colonies are not circular but appear as triads or tetrads.

Could someone enlighten me. Thanks.

Note - I am sorry for the poor quality image. It was taken with a mobile phone.

Any chance you could put them under a microscope and Gram stain? There is a good chance they are yeasts of some description.
