McConkey agar - (Feb/17/2015 )

Dear members,

could you please help with this little question as I have not been using McConkey before:

My objective is to artificially contaminate a sample with a reference E.coli, then apply a treatment in sepcific conditions and later enumerate. (growth changes)

What shall I use? McConkey agar (regular) or McConkey with sorbitol?

there are papers who used the McConjey sorbitol , others used the Rapid'2 E.coli agar from Biorad. I have McConkey available (without sorbitol).

the advice and comments are appreciated !

if you have mcconkey and not rapid2 then follow the papers which used mcconkey and add the sorbitol.

if you don't have access to sorbitol then you'll have to purchase one of them. select the one which was used for a project most similar to yours.

thanks a lot for the comment.
