Dilution calculation - (Jan/28/2015 )

Hi, was wondering if someone could help me.
Could someone advise how i would calculate a question like this

To start with i have a bacterial culture of 1x10^8 and i need to dilute to get 5x10^3

Thanks

  1. Dilution factor calculation
  2. How to do it

1: Calcuation

Stock / needed conc. : 1x10^8 / 5x10^3 : 20,000

2:protocol

To be accurate, you can't do it in one step. You should do 1/100 (10µL into 990µl ddH2O), and then 1/200 (5µl of the diluted prep into 995µl of ddH2O).

Hi there

This post on calculating dilutions using the dilution factor will probably be helpful.

Good luck!
