cancer research - (Nov/19/2014 )

Hi all, can any one can tell the basis of detection of anti tumour activity of a certain compound/crude extract?

-Chomolungma-

The simplest is a cell count - proliferation inhibition.

Thanks. But other than the cell count, are there any specific genes in cancer cells whose expression level can tell whether it's inhibited or not?

-Chomolungma-

Yes and no - it depends on the cell type and mode of action of the inhibition. If for instance the drug stimulates apoptosis, then you could look for cleaved Parp or caspases, but if the drug causes senescence, then you could look for upregulation of B-galactosidase.
