Will S. griseus grow on Columbia blood agar? - (Jul/20/2014 )

Hello,

I got S. griseus from DSMZ. I dissolved the pellet in LB medium containing 0,3% Tween-80 and stored at 4°C for 2 days. I put onto Columbia sheep blood agar two days ago and on another agar medium (yeast extract, meat extract, glucose, NaCl, Peptone, Tryptone) and incubated at 30°C.

Will the bacteria grow under these conditions? Till now there is no visible growth. I am asking because on the DSMZ home page they recommend GYM medium (glucose, yeast extract, malt extract, CaCO3). Two of these ingredients I do not have inside my agars.

I think it should not make a difference and I have incubate for at least 10 days until I can see growth, but I am not sure since I have not used this bacterium berfore.

What do you think?

it can take a few days, up to 7 if I am not mistaken, but it should grow yes.

But I can be wrong, its been a long time for me.

Check the documentation provided by the DSMZ. If they don't state the incubation time, better ask them. They should be able to give you the expected incubation time in a given medium for your specific strain.

the documentation provided by DSMZ is almost always non existent. And when we contact them they not always helpful.

give it a go wait 7 days and contact them
