how do I interpret this - (Jul/19/2014 )

how do I interpret this streak plate technique. We used E.Coli, what this result means? Please help explain

You will need to give some info of what you did before streaking out E.Coli on the plate. What media did you use. The bacteria you streaked out, was it transformed etc. 

 

Or is this one of your first few classes of microbiology. Then, its just streaking to get single colonies like you have got on the top half of your plate.

it was one of my first classes in microbiology, I belive it was nutrient agar streak plate. I don't understand how to interpret this result.

you sure must have some more information from the class text book?

 

All you can say now is that you streaked a bacterium and got some single colonies.....  more information is needed!

what you are showing is the typical method used to isolate a single colony (or multiple isolations) of bacteria. in effect it is similar to performing a serial dilution.
