Can I make my own electrocompetent Stbl4 cells? - (May/01/2014 )

Life Technologies sell an electrocompetent E. coli strain called Stbl4. It has an F′ episome containing proAB +  lacI q Z∆M15 Tn10 (I'm not sure what that means).

Could I prepare Stbl4 electrocompetent cells in the same way that I can do it for DH5-alpha?

Would I need to use a medium containing an antibiotic to ensure that the F' episome is not lost?

Yes, a normal electroporation preparation should work fine. F' episomes are usually stable without selection.

Yes you can use normal glycerol washing method as recomended for DH5-alpha.
