to define an operon - (Feb/11/2014 )

Hi there,

I am wondering can a single operon compromises genes from different direction ? like ORF from +ve strand as well as -ve strand ?

is it possible ?

Appreciate any help here

No, an operon is transcribed from a single promoter, so the mRNA is a single stranded copy of the antisense strand of DNA. Proteins coded in the opposite direction cannot be translated, since the mRNA would be the reverse complement of the correct coding sequence.

Thank you very much for your answer ! thanks !
