Prepared Slides Repair - (Jan/17/2014 )

I am currently cataloging the prepared microscope slides for the biology deaprtment I work for.  As I have been working with the slides I've noticed a common problem, the glue under the cover slip has become "cloudy" with age.  Anyone have suggestions for a quick fix?

I have replaced the coverslips on some slides and it is a bit time consuming to go through the whole process so I was hoping someone may know of an easy fix that will save time.

Thanks in advance for any input!

The glue is likely a mounting medium of some sort, and the cloudyness could be the result of a number of different things, so there is probably no easy fix other than to remove the coverslip and re-mount.

I would suggest having a look down a microscope at these slides, you may well find that there isn't much affect at the magnifications used for the classes.

Thanks for the information and I feared that to be the case.

With some the cloudyness is not disruptive to viewing the specimen but in other cases it has been.  Some of the slides it seems the mounting medium has dried out and appears to have cracks throughout.  I guess with those I'll need to remove and remount.  Its just so time consuming, was really hoping for a short-cut.  Oh well...

Thank you!
