BrdU incorporated DNA- move slower during electrophoresis? - (Jan/16/2014 )

Hi, everyone,

I am wondering if anyone knows if BrdU incorporated DNA has migration retardation during electrophoresis? I know DIG labeled DNA is retarded, but what about BrdU labeled DNA?

Thanks in advance! :)

BrDU should be heavier in terms of molecular mass, but the structure of the two molecules (thymidine and BrDU) isn't all that different, so I don't think that it will run with much of a difference.  DIG is quite a big molecule, so that is why it runs so differently.

Thanks Bob1, I totally agree with your reasoning, that's what I thought too. But it will be great to see some evidences If somebody has done experiments comparing it...
