Fanconi anaemia, how was the FANCA gene identified? - (Oct/24/2013 )

Hi,

I've to do some research and makes notes on Fanconi anaemia.

I have to describe how the causative FANCA gene was identified and state what the protein does?

I have been using OMIM 227650, however i'm struggling to extract the required information. It says that its was first described in 1927 but i cant find what technique was used to determine the FANCA gene.

Thanks

The structure of DNA wasn't described until 1953, so I seriously doubt that the gene was isolated before then...  Fanconi described the condition in 1927, but the genetics will be much later.

Have a look at reference 8 in the references list...
