DNA laddering - (Jul/04/2013 )

Based on the kit ApoTarget by invitrogen, DNA fragmentation was seen to have a slight laddering effect (Image 1 below)




The outcome I got is much of a smearing effect (Image 2 below)


where L1: 1kb ladder, L2: negative control, L3: positive control

Would the result I got be considered as DNA fragmentation even without the obvious laddering effect?

Necrosis gives smear. Apoptosis gives fragmentation (the lowest band approximately 180-200 bp). Try loading your sample again and take a better picture. Half of your gel is missing. I have done many fragmentation assays, your sample is very faint.
