Freezing Cells For Use In Assays - (Apr/24/2013 )

Hi just wondering if anyone can help me.

I am looking for a protocol that allows me to freeze down cells in batches which i can then store in the -80 for use in assays over a period of a few months. I have used cells like this previously. On the day of experiment I took them out of the -80 and quickly thawed them, resuspend (to remove DMSO) and left for 30 mins; they have worked great. Someone else used to make the cells but now I have to, and I dont even know what the method is called to search for it!

Thanks,

I'm not sure if I understood correctly, but are you looking for a recipe to freezing medium ? Because if you want to freeze them, the only thing you need is an appropriate DMSO-containing freezing medium.
Which type of cells are they ?

Maybe. If I want to freeze down cells to put in the -80 for daily assays instead of the liquid nitrogen, is the protocol different? I have used HEK very succesfully in the past but I may be using jurkat in future.
