Mycoplasma on normal hands? - (Mar/11/2013 )

Any microbiologists can comment on if it's normal to have trace amounts of mycoplasma on our hands? Is microplasma abundant in the air/on human bodies/human environments?

I've seen people move flasks in a tissue culture specific lab without gloved hands and handling cell culture flasks with bare hands without ethanol sterilisation. What are the chances that mycoplasma will get into the incubator via their hands?

Mycoplasma are a part of the normal skin microflora... so yes, it can happen. If the flasks are wiped down with ethanol before use, then this should minimize risk.
