Hepatic-Vagus Connectors - (Feb/12/2013 )

How does the vagus nerve connect to the liver? How does the vagus nerve relate to hepatic glycogen stores?

-mgailliot-

Parasympathetic nervous system => rest and digest, so enhanced glycogen synthesis in the liver (via muscarinic receptors)

The path (http://www.cvpharmacology.com/antiarrhy/atropine-Gi%20protein.gif) applies to the heart. Does it apply to the liver (in humans)?

A quick web search didn't give anything conclusive on which muscarinic receptor is involved in this process in liver, but M2 is actually typical for heart... The M recptors have got different signal transduction pathways, see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscarinic_acetylcholine_receptor#M1_receptor
