contamination of human cell lines with yeast - (Dec/11/2012 )

Please tell me if there is a danger of human cell lines being contaminated with Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells. We have a very worried neighboring lab, and I would like to know if their worries are justified. Thanks a lot!

Yes it is entirely possible. You should be able to see the yeast quite easily and smell it too if you have a high enough contamination level.

Whether or not your neighbouring lab is justified in their concerns, though, will depend on everybody's aseptic technique. And the amount of shared equipment you use, etc.

Definitely, especially after using Saccharomyces cerevisiae at home for backing. You can contaminate your cells even two days after having used it.
