How does collaboration ends? - (Sep/13/2012 )

How collaboration would work in situation in which if a person collaborated with other Researcher in another university in different country. If somehow a person does not gets expected results from their collaboration how collaboration ends? Does it become mandatory for person to keep researching on things or he needs to pay dues?

I mean official collaboration between universities with some paper agreements. I put expected results in wrong context. I mean what if there is some technical /administrative delay in collaborative research which is expected to be completed in stipulated time as per agreement. Is it mandatory for person to continue research after stipulated time or he/university responsible for delay needs to pay dues?

As for the end of a collaboration, you have to see the agreement, if it's something official, it should stipulate the time frame, possibility of extensions etc. And normally, there are annual or semi-annual reports to be submitted so there shouldn't be any surprises for both parties in the end bec they shld be keeping each other up to date. For the CIHR, I think it's a year before they officially close the study but you won't be getting fresh funds or anything like that but just to cross the t's and dot the i's...

actually, I reread what I wrote and it is kinda confusing.....with CIHR (perhaps even NSERC and the SSHRC- you can google them) they usually give you another year before they officially "close" the project or the grant to wrap things up unless the researchers apply for and get awarded an extension ...any unspent funds will also have to be returned to Ottawa....it's probably the same for the NIH etc.

I got general idea. I wanted to know regarding U.K. collaboration (Oxford university), it may be working in same way. Thanks.
