phospholipid preparation in methanol - (Aug/21/2012 )

Hi! I am using a drug, sphingosine-1-phosphate, and the recommendations of the data sheet say to dissolve it in methanol, but later to evaporate the methanol, and then the drug will be ready to dissolve in water solutions. I was wondering which is the chemistry behind this protocol. What the methanol change to make it soluble in water?
Thanks

The only data sheet I could find for it, from Sigma-Aldrich, says to dissolve in methanol only. It says nothing about evaporating the methanol. Usually (!) if you have pre-dissolved in a solvent, then diluting in your working medium is OK.
