Which is the best vendor to get oligos from? - (Aug/16/2012 )

Hi

I have to order oligonucleotides and I asked for prices from several different vendors. The prices are quite different, but I am going to base my deciscion on quality. Now all the vendors tell me that their oligos are from high quality, which doesn't help me in decision making. Can anybody give me some advice in terms of oligo providers? So far I have on my list: Sigma, IDT, LIfe Science, Biosearch Tech, Bioneer, Inc., Rockland Immunochemicals, Inc., and Midland Certified Reagent Company.

Thanks

Hyld

Make sure that you are comparing prices for the same purity and amount.

What do you need the oligos for? I think it is worth "risking" using a cheaper, lesser known company for simple PCR oligos. But if you are designing something like labelled oligos for qPCR or something like that, then I'd go with a bigger company that has a good history of producing quality products (e.g. Sigma).

Also factor in the time it takes from ordering to receiving your oligo. Its all well and good for an oligo to be half the price, but if it takes 2 months to get to you then you may have preferred paying more in the first place :)

We use IDT and are very pleased with their speed and reliability.

Thanks for your input.

I want to use them for qPCR and for HRM. Some of them are labeled, some of them are quite long (100 bp), and some of them are just plain normal.

For HRM you need HPLC purified, for qPCR.. not that much. Labeled and long oligos are also HPLC purified (or similar) on default.
I can't suggest you anything because you obviously need US supplier (though I would REALLY think twice about companies that have such websites as Midland Certified in 21. century) , but we take ordinary primers from the cheapest company with fair quality and labeled oligos from one recommended by our cycler's company (they also design assays on demand for free if we purchase them there).

Hello Hyld and all the other members of this forum.

ALtough I do not want to make any unwanted publicity in this forum, I would invite you to check the company that I work with, in the US, as you dont seem to have it mentioned on your original post. They can supply oligos as well. To find the company, just search for my name (below) on LinkedIn, for example.

I hope this helps, and I apologize for not replying earlier. Unfortunately, I was only aware of this forum today.

can you give the link to and name of your company?

IDT is good. I am using oligos from them and It works all the time.

But I think Bioneer is another choice because their oligos is much cheaper I think. You should try Hyld.
