Sub G1 in cell cycle - (Jun/29/2012 )

Hi to all
Could everyone please tell me about the subG1 cells in flow cytometry histogram? I mean what is the identity of these cell? are they apoptotic cells or not?
thanks

They might be apoptotic. This measurement is used sometimes as a proxy for apoptosis. Depending on what was done to the culture they could also arise from mitotic collapse or other non-disjunction type errors during mitosis.

You could try using Annexin V-FITC as an indicator of potential apoptosis in these cells? Or if you have a proper FACS, could you not collect this sub population and run an apoptosis-related western blot (caspase-3, Bax. Bcl-2 etc)?
