Hi,

If I understand correctly, you want to stop their growth during the log phase.

A bacteriostatic antibiotic comes to mind. You could add it into the growth medium when the bacteria has entered the log phase.

What is your objective in "arresting" growth? Does it demand that viability be maintained?

hi.yes sure the viability must be maintained.i want to study in some genes which are expressed more in log phase.

Why not freeeze it and chase the RNA?

If you want to study gene expression in log phase, then you want to rapidly freeze the bacteria, not dramatically change the environment by stopping growth! You will most certainly dramatically change expression levels of genes by keeping the cells viable and inhibiting growth. I'd suggest a quench in liquid nitrogen or dry ice/ethanol to rapidly freeze them, followed by rapid extraction of RNA with Trizol.
