Forgetting iodine when gram staining - (Oct/28/2011 )

If we forget to do the iodine step for example when doing gram staining, provided that the microorganism we have is gram positive, what will the colour of the stained microorganism in this case be? Will it be with NO colour or will it be pink-red (the colour of the gram negative)? Why is that?

What would you hypothesise? What are the other components of a Gram's stain, and how would they react with the cell wall?

Note - I think this is homework, so I'm not just giving out the answers...
