MIC Minimum Inhibitory Concentration - (Oct/17/2011 )

Hi all,

I would like to know why it is measured the MIC-Minimum Inhibitory Concentration- as MIC50 or MIC 90 or just MIC. I know whar are the definitions, Ijust wanna know why it it not better always measure the MIC for all the isolates than just for 90% or 50% of the isolates???

These sorts of things are often asymptotic in nature -so measuring the absolute MIC is meaningless. MIC50 is where 50% inhibition takes place (correspondingly for MIC90).

Hi Bob 1, thank you for you answer. But what you mean when you say "asymptoticin nature"?

Look up asymptote - it will explain it better than I can.
