Speed Vac Alternative - (Jul/04/2011 )

Currently we do not have a speed vac for drying down samples in our lab. We are looking for one, but I was wondering if there are any alternatives to this process.

I am trying to dry down amino acids that have been dissolved in 8mL of 3 N ammonium hydroxide. Could the samples be evaporated by heat or dried with nitrogen?

Nitrogen (or air) blown over the surface will rapidly evaporate liquid. Heat will assist this, but is not really necessary.

you can lyophilize the sample (if you have the right equipment).
